Zermatt is a popular resort in Switzerland known for its picturesque landscape, rich cultural heritage and car-free zone. To protect the environment and meet the needs of residents and visitors, Zermatt relies on electric vehicles that are quiet, clean and efficient.

One of the leading providers of electric vehicles in Zermatt is STIMBO, a family business that has been planning, developing and building electric vehicles since 1985. STIMBO offers a wide range of vehicle types that can be customized according to customer requirements. These include passenger cars, pickups, vans, tippers, buses and special vehicles. What all the vehicles have in common is that they accommodate an enormous amount of technology in their highly restricted external dimensions. The vehicles can transport a payload of up to 6 tons on an area of 4 x 1.4 meters.

Electric vehicles of the highest quality

Stimbo electric vehicles are also characterized by their high quality and durability. They are made of aluminum, which is lighter than steel and does not rust. As a result, they have a longer range, less wear and tear, and lower costs. STIMBO electric vehicles also have modern options such as all-wheel drive, auxiliary heating, panoramic roof, Type 2 charging interface and much more.

One example of an innovative STIMBO electric vehicle is the 6-tonne hooklift for the Zermatt refuse collection service. This vehicle is versatile and is used for emptying compacting skips, cardboard and glass skips and compacting containers with a dumping device. It is specially designed for the narrow streets and steep slopes of Zermatt and has a range of up to 100 km.

More speed thanks to lithium-ion batteries

STIMBO electric vehicles are not only suitable for Zermatt, but also for other places that rely on environmentally friendly and individual mobility solutions. STIMBO has already delivered electric vehicles to other Swiss cantons.

By switching from 80-volt lead batteries to a 400-volt lithium-ion battery system, STIMBO electric vehicles achieve exceptional performance. This is particularly evident on long, steep climbs up the mountain, which is the usual road in Zermatt. Thanks to the new technology, the maximum speed of 20 km/h or 30 km/h permitted in Zermatt can be reached even on steep sections. This results in massive time savings compared to conventional lead-acid battery vehicles.

Durot Electric was able to support STIMBO with the switch to the higher voltage level in software development.
